The iconic Binh Dong Floating Flower Market along the Tau Hu - Ben Nghe canal in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, has officially opened for the Lunar New Year. This traditional 'On the Wharf, Under the Boat' market is one of Saigon’s most beloved cultural events, capturing the rustic charm of Southwestern Vietnam right in the heart of the bustling metropolis. This year, the market hosts around 600 vendors and horticulturists from various Mekong Delta provinces, including Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, and Hau Giang.

For generations, Binh Dong has served as a vital trading hub during the Tet season. Dozens of wooden boats and barges laden with vibrant flowers dock along the canal, turning the waterfront into a colorful floating garden. Visitors can find an incredible variety of festive flora, including golden apricot blossoms (mai vang), bright yellow marigolds, potted kumquat trees, and multicolored paper flowers (hoa giay). Prices range from affordable pocket-sized pots to magnificent, meticulously shaped ornamental trees worth millions of dong, catering to all home decorating needs.

To enhance the visitor experience, local authorities have upgraded the canal pathways and set up beautiful photo backdrops, including a floating stage on the Tau Hu canal that hosts traditional music performances every evening. Bustling crowds gather from early afternoon to shop, take photos in traditional Ao Dai, and soak in the lively spring atmosphere. The market will remain open until February 9th (the 30th day of the lunar month), offering an unforgettable cultural experience for anyone celebrating Tet in Saigon.
