Designed by the firm Environ Planners, this one-story residence is built on a 550-square-meter plot and serves as a sanctuary for an architect's family. The project began as a renovation of a two-decade-old villa, transformed into a modern home that prioritizes environmental harmony and a minimalist lifestyle.

The most striking feature of the house is its use of local materials. The exterior is clad in basalt stone, which was harvested directly from the site during the process of digging a well. This not only reduced the carbon footprint associated with transporting materials but also ensures the house blends perfectly with the local geology. The sloping roof, covered in traditional tiles, helps the structure adapt to the local climate, providing natural cooling during the hot Indian summers. Surrounding the home is a lush mini-forest of 5,000 trees, including medicinal plants, flowers, and fruit trees, which has turned a once-barren plot into a thriving ecosystem for birds and small wildlife.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of the design. The home features an on-site water recycling system and rooftop solar panels that provide energy for heating and daily use. Inside, the architecture celebrates 'upcycling,' with many of the wooden beams, columns, and supports being repurposed from other old villas. The interior layout includes four spacious bedrooms with high ceilings and large windows to maximize natural light and ventilation. A separate swimming pool area provides a cool oasis, further integrating the built environment with the surrounding greenery.
