Vietnam’s Secret 25km Bougainvillea Road: A Floral Journey Through Ma Da Forest

Deep within the heart of the Ma Da Forest in Dong Nai province lies one of Vietnam's most breathtaking hidden gems: a 25-kilometer stretch of road lined with over 12,000 bougainvillea plants. This vibrant corridor, known for its brilliant shades of purple and pink, serves as the gateway to three national historical sites within the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Conservation Area. For over 15 years, forest rangers and local residents have meticulously cared for these plants, transforming a simple forest path into a world-class floral destination that rivals the most famous scenic drives in the world.

The project began in 2008 with the goal of enhancing the landscape and boosting eco-tourism in the region. According to Mr. Tran Dinh Hung, head of the local Forest Ranger unit, bougainvillea was chosen because of its resilience and ability to thrive in the harsh, dry conditions of the forest. The road also features thousands of frangipani trees, creating a diverse and fragrant environment. While the flowers bloom year-round, the most spectacular display occurs between April and June, when the colors are at their most vivid. The province has recently approved a massive investment of 991 billion VND for the development of eco-tourism and entertainment in the Ma Da Forest for the 2021-2030 period. This plan includes expanding the floral displays and introducing native species like the 'Muong Hoa Dao' (Pink Cassia), which resembles the cherry blossoms of Japan. The vision is to create a sustainable tourism model that protects the 'green lungs' of Southeast Vietnam while providing a unique experience for visitors.
