Bizarre Currencies of the Past: From Stone Money to Wooden Coins

Before the advent of modern paper banknotes, digital transactions, and standardized metal coins, human societies used an incredibly diverse and often bizarre array of objects as currency. From massive stone discs to wooden tokens and organic items, the history of money is a fascinating testament to human ingenuity and the evolving concept of value. One of the most famous examples of unusual currency is the Rai stones of Yap Island in Micronesia. These giant, circular limestone discs could measure up to twelve feet in diameter and weigh several tons.
