00The heart of Ho Chi Minh City was transformed into a vibrant runway as the 10th annual Ao Dai Festival officially kicked off on Nguyen Hue Walking Street. This milestone event, themed 'I Love Vietnamese Ao Dai,' brought together thousands of locals and international tourists to witness a spectacular display of Vietnam’s national garment. The opening night featured an impressive lineup of 23 renowned designers from across the country, showcasing collections that blended traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetic sensibilities.
Leading the procession was Miss Universe Vietnam Ngoc Chau, who served as an official ambassador for this year’s festival. She opened the show in the 'Lụa hát sen trong' (Silk Sings in the Lotus) collection by designer Trung Dinh. This particular collection drew significant praise for its use of high-quality silk and intricate, hand-painted patterns that celebrated the iconic lotus flower. Ngoc Chau expressed her pride in representing the festival, noting that the event is a vital platform for promoting Vietnamese culture to a global audience.
Another highlight of the evening was the appearance of Miss Vietnam Tieu Vy, who took the stage as the vedette for designer Duc Vincie’s 'Hương sắc Việt' collection. The outfit was a masterpiece of design, inspired by the mythical fire phoenix. The ensemble featured a dramatic 10-meter-long tail and double-layered silk wings, symbolizing the rising spirit of the nation. Other prominent figures including Miss Xuan Hanh and runner-up Huong Ly also graced the runway, wearing designs that utilized traditional materials like silk and pearl accents to highlight the elegance of the Vietnamese woman.
Beyond the glitz and glamour of the beauty queens, the 10th Ao Dai Festival emphasized international friendship. A special segment featured female Consuls General and their spouses walking the runway in Ao Dai, a gesture aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and spreading the beauty of the costume to international friends. The festival isn't just a one-night show; it continues through March 17th with various activities including mass performances, the 'Charming Ao Dai' competition, and interactive exhibitions. As visitor Kim Ngan noted, these activities help the younger generation understand the history of the Ao Dai, fostering a deeper love for their cultural heritage. The event is organized by the Department of Tourism and the Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City, ensuring a professional and culturally rich experience for all attendees.
