Designer Trung Đinh Showcases Exquisite Hand-Painted Silk Ao Dai Collection Featuring Miss Universe Vietnam Ngọc Châu

As part of the vibrant Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival 2024, renowned designer and silk artisan Trung Đinh has introduced his latest masterpiece, the 'Lụa hát sen trong' (Silk Sings in the Pure Lotus) collection. This stunning series of 16 designs draws deep inspiration from the single-petal lotuses of Cao Lãnh, Đồng Tháp, known for their large, delicate white petals tinged with a soft pink hue. Trung Đinh, a pioneer in combining traditional aesthetics with modern techniques, utilized his signature 'Ombre' dyeing method—a manual process of blending and transitioning colors—to create a unique base for his hand-painted artistry.

The collection is a technical marvel, featuring realistic lotus paintings on high-quality silk. One of the most challenging aspects of these designs is the integration of transparent silk (tơ). Painting on such a thin, see-through material requires immense skill to ensure the fabric remains soft and fluid without becoming stiff or heavy from the paint. Trung Đinh explains that while lotus motifs are common in Ao Dai design, his work stands out due to the specific combination of manual dyeing and realistic painting. He aims for viewers to immediately recognize the 'Trung Đinh' identity through the depth of color and the soulful representation of the national flower.

The runway presentation was a star-studded affair, led by Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 Ngọc Châu and Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2023 Xuân Hạnh. They were joined by an impressive lineup of beauty queens and top models, including Lệ Hằng, Mâu Thủy, Kim Duyên, Thủy Tiên, and Hương Ly. Trung Đinh deliberately chose beauty queens (Hoa hậu) for this show, noting that the Ao Dai requires a specific aura and poise that these titleholders possess. He believes that while fashion models bring an edgy look, the Ao Dai is best showcased through the graceful and sophisticated 'charismatic' performance style of a beauty queen.

'Lụa hát sen trong' is more than just a fashion collection; it is a tribute to Vietnamese silk and cultural heritage. By focusing on the 'tả thực' (realistic) style, Trung Đinh preserves the natural beauty of the lotus while elevating it into a work of wearable art. The collection successfully highlights the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fashion trends. As the models glided down the runway in the heart of HCMC, the collection sent a powerful message about the enduring beauty of the Ao Dai and the skill of Vietnamese artisans.
