00As the Lunar New Year (Tet) approaches, a popular trend among young Vietnamese is dressing up in the traditional Ao Dai for festive photoshoots. However, behind the beautiful and elegant pictures shared on social media lies a series of hilarious struggles and unexpected mishaps, commonly referred to by Gen Z as 'kiếp nạn' (tragedies/trials).
During the peak weekend season, popular historical locations like Ta Hien Street and Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, as well as Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, become incredibly crowded. The sheer volume of people has led to the funny observation that there are '10 models for every square meter.' Some groups of friends even resort to playing card games on the sidewalk while waiting for the crowds to clear out so they can finally get a clean shot.
Other hilarious incidents involve physical mishaps near water features. To capture the perfect poetic pose, some girls have accidentally fallen into Hoan Kiem Lake or Turtle Lake, requiring them to search for lost shoes with farm tools. Even children are not immune to the photoshoot chaos, often transitioning from sweet smiles to tears of exhaustion. Furthermore, online shopping fails add to the comedy, with some receiving outfits that look completely different from the advertised photos. Despite these struggles, these funny memories only add to the joy and laughter of the festive season.
