00HY House is an architectural gem in Da Nang that tackles the common problem of urban density with a creative 'Tropical Shell' design. Situated on a 270m2 plot, the challenge for Tran Trung Architects was to create an open, breathable living space within a narrow site surrounded by tall walls. The solution was a dual-layered facade at the front and back of the house, constructed from staggered terracotta bricks. This 'perforated' shell features a void ratio of over 50%, allowing the house to 'breathe' while protecting it from direct solar radiation, urban dust, noise, and driving rain.
This innovative structure facilitates natural cross-ventilation, with cool breezes weaving through the brickwork and circulating through the large internal atriums and central vegetation zones. As a result, the residents can enjoy a comfortable indoor climate without relying heavily on air conditioning or mechanical cooling systems. The interior follows a 'porous' layout, where communal spaces are open and interconnected, fostering a sense of freedom and relaxation. Large glass doors and windows offer unobstructed views of the internal greenery, making the house feel like a private oasis.
Every corner of HY House is designed to erase the feeling of suffocation often associated with traditional tube houses. The kitchen and dining areas are bathed in natural light, and the bedrooms feature wide glass openings that look out onto lush plants. Even the bathrooms and staircases are designed to be airy and light-filled. By combining traditional materials like terracotta with modern architectural concepts, HY House provides a sustainable and tranquil living environment that adapts perfectly to the tropical climate of Central Vietnam. It is a perfect example of how smart design can transform a cramped urban lot into a luxurious, nature-filled retreat.
