The Incredible True Story Behind the Movie Saving Private Ryan

While the characters in the movie are fictional, the inspiration came from the real-life Niland brothers. During the height of the war, four brothers from Tonawanda, New York—Edward, Preston, Robert, and Fritz Niland—all served in the U.S. military.
