Vietnam's Lunar New Year (Tet) is a magical time for travel, offering a vibrant mix of spring festivals, blooming flowers, and pleasant weather. If you are planning a trip to Southeast Asia, understanding where locals and international travelers flock during this festive season can help you craft the ultimate itinerary. Here are the top 10 domestic destinations in Vietnam that captured the hearts of travelers during the recent Tet holiday.

Starting in the mountainous north, Hà Giang experienced a massive surge in tourism, with visitor numbers jumping over 81% compared to the previous year. Adventurous souls gathered at iconic spots like the Quản Bạ Heaven Gate, Thẩm Mã Pass, Lũng Cú Flag Tower, and the breathtaking Nho Quế River. The highlight of the season was the ethereal Suôi Thầu Steppe in Xín Mần district, which offered fairytale-like landscapes. Meanwhile, Sa Pa in Lào Cai province remained the ultimate northern winter-spring retreat. With luxury 4-star and 5-star hotels completely booked, over 112,000 visitors arrived to experience cultural spring festivals, including the famous "Opening the Heaven Gate" festival at Fansipan Legend.

Further east, Quảng Ninh province welcomed over 803,000 visitors. Key attractions included the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hạ Long Bay, the spiritual sanctuary of Yên Tử, and the bustling border town of Móng Cái. For culinary enthusiasts, Hải Phòng was the place to be. The city’s famous "food tour" remained incredibly active throughout Tet, with local eateries serving up iconic dishes like crab red noodles (bánh đa cua) and spicy bread (bánh mì cay) directly to hungry travelers.

In Ninh Bình, over 590,000 travelers explored the stunning karst landscapes of Tràng An, Tam Cốc, and the panoramic views from Hang Múa. Moving to Central Vietnam, Đà Nẵng served as a major tourism hub, welcoming over 402,000 visitors, including a large portion of international travelers who enjoyed coastal luxury resorts and attractions like Bà Nà Hills. Nearby, the ancient town of Hội An in Quảng Nam province charmed tourists with its traditional lantern-lit streets and vibrant heritage activities, drawing over 305,000 visitors.

In the south, Phan Thiết (Bình Thuận) benefited greatly from the new expressway, cutting travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to just two hours, making Mũi Né’s sand dunes and NovaWorld highly accessible. Đà Lạt in the Central Highlands saw a 61.9% increase in visitors, who arrived to witness the late-blooming pink cherry blossoms (mai anh đào) around Xuân Hương Lake. Finally, the tropical paradise of Phú Quốc in Kiên Giang province recorded a 32% rise in visitors, with international arrivals increasing sixfold, drawn to new attractions like the Sunset Town, Kiss Bridge, and Vui Fest night market.

Whether you prefer rugged mountain passes, cultural heritage, or pristine beaches, Vietnam during Tet offers an unforgettable travel experience.
