Mitsubishi Xpander Hybrid Debuts in Thailand: Specs and Price Forecast

Mitsubishi has officially expanded its popular MPV lineup with the launch of the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV in Thailand on February 1, 2024. This move marks a significant step for the brand as it brings hybrid technology to one of the best-selling 7-seater vehicles in the Southeast Asian market. While the exterior remains largely similar to the gasoline version, the hybrid variants are distinguished by subtle blue accents on the bumpers, side skirts, and wheels, along with the 'HEV' logo on the grille and tailgate. The real transformation lies under the hood, where a new 1.6L MIVEC engine producing 95 hp and 134 Nm is paired with a powerful electric motor generating 116 hp and 225 Nm. This combination is mated to an e-CVT electronic continuously variable transmission, offering a smoother and more fuel-efficient driving experience with an average consumption of just 5.2L/100km. Inside, the Xpander HEV features a new 8-inch digital instrument cluster, an electronic gear shifter, and a drive mode selector. To ensure peace of mind, Mitsubishi is offering an impressive 10-year unlimited mileage warranty on the Lithium-ion battery. Safety and performance are further enhanced with the inclusion of Active Yaw Control (AYC) and seven distinct driving modes: Charge, EV, Normal, Wet, Gravel, Tarmac, and Mud. In Thailand, the Xpander HEV is priced starting from 933,000 Baht (approx. $26,000 USD), while the Xpander Cross HEV starts at 961,000 Baht. As the Xpander has been a dominant force in the Vietnamese market for years, the arrival of the hybrid version is highly anticipated, though experts predict a higher price point compared to the current Premium gasoline version.
