00Attention all car enthusiasts in Vietnam! Important regulatory changes regarding vehicle modifications are set to take effect starting July 1st, 2026. Under the new decree, specific car accessories and cosmetic upgrades can be installed without being officially classified as illegal 'car modifications' (độ xe). This new legal framework aims to balance the personal styling preferences of car owners with strict road safety and registration inspection (đăng kiểm) standards.
According to the upcoming guidelines, car owners will be allowed to install practical accessories that do not alter the core technical structure, safety systems, or dimensions of the vehicle. Approved items typically include utility roof racks, side steps, wind deflectors, and minor cosmetic exterior body kits, provided they meet specific size and weight limits. Additionally, upgrading to certain certified LED lighting systems that improve visibility without causing glare to oncoming traffic will also be permitted, making night driving safer for everyone.
However, major modifications such as altering the engine performance, modifying the exhaust system to increase noise levels, changing the vehicle's chassis, or installing oversized wheels that extend beyond the fender remain strictly prohibited. Car owners are advised to carefully check the official list of approved accessories and consult with registered inspection centers before making any upgrades. Staying informed about these new laws starting July 1, 2026, will help you personalize your vehicle legally, safely, and hassle-free.
