00Nestled along a quiet river in the countryside of Nghe An province, '1gian' is a house that celebrates simplicity, tradition, and a deep connection with nature. Designed by Nguyen Khac Phuoc Architects, this project takes inspiration from the traditional Vietnamese 'one-compartment' house, reimagining it for a modern lifestyle. The most striking feature is the expansive red-tiled roof, which not only provides excellent thermal insulation but also gives the house a rustic and familiar silhouette that blends perfectly with the rural landscape.
The philosophy behind '1gian' is minimalism and relaxation. The interior is designed to be open and fluid, with few partitions to allow the river breeze to flow freely through the living spaces. Large glass doors and strategically placed 'giếng trời' (skylights) ensure the home is always filled with natural light, reducing the boundary between the indoors and the lush greenery outside. A highlight of the house is the deep porch area, often adorned with climbing plants, providing a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening reflection while overlooking the water.
Nguyen Khac Phuoc Architects have successfully created a space that is both a home and a sanctuary. By using local materials and traditional forms, '1gian' feels grounded and timeless. It is a stark contrast to the hectic pace of city life, offering its inhabitants a place to slow down and reconnect with the environment. This project is a favorite among the Happynest community for its honest architecture and its ability to evoke a sense of peace. Whether it's the play of light on the brick walls or the sound of the river, every element of '1gian' is designed to soothe the soul and provide a refined living experience in the heart of Nghe An.
