Located in the tranquil countryside of Hoa Tien, Da Nang, this 257m² residence stands as a testament to resilient and beautiful rural architecture. Designed by the renowned Hinzstudio and completed in 2022, the house is a direct response to the annual challenges faced by the local community. The region is frequently subjected to severe flooding, with water levels often rising over one meter. To combat this, the architects implemented a 'closed top, open bottom' strategy. By elevating the main living quarters to the upper floor and leaving the ground level largely open, the design ensures the safety of the inhabitants and their belongings during the flood season. This elevated perspective does more than just provide safety; it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding rice fields, bamboo groves, and distant mountain ranges, turning the landscape into a living gallery for the residents.

The aesthetic of the house is a blend of rigid structural lines and soft, organic curves that mirror the natural environment. During the day, the house feels like an extension of the fields, while at night, it transforms into a glowing lantern-like structure, casting a warm yellow light across the dark rural landscape. This lighting creates a cozy and secure atmosphere, even when the house stands isolated amidst the vast fields. The interior is designed to be highly breathable, utilizing natural breezes to cool the space and reducing the need for artificial climate control. By integrating modern design principles with local environmental data, Hinzstudio has created a home that is not only flood-proof but also deeply connected to the peace and beauty of the Da Nang countryside. It is a model for future rural developments in flood-prone areas, proving that functionality and fairy-tale aesthetics can go hand in hand.
