00The Prime Minister has officially approved the development plan for Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for the 2021-2030 period, with a grand vision extending to 2050. This ambitious roadmap aims to transform the province into a premier maritime economic center for the entire country and a key logistics hub for Southeast Asia. Covering over 1,982 square kilometers, the plan encompasses major urban areas like Vung Tau city, Ba Ria city, and the industrial powerhouse of Phu My. By 2050, the province aspires to be a world-class destination for high-quality tourism, leveraging its stunning coastline and unique islands like Con Dao. AI-generated visualizations of the future urban landscape show a hyper-modern metropolis characterized by green architecture and multi-modal transportation systems, including planned Metro and MonoRail lines that will connect coastal towns and industrial zones.
A central pillar of this growth is the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port complex. Currently ranked as the 12th largest deep-water port in the world, it outperforms major hubs in Singapore and Japan in terms of vessel handling capabilities. The port is capable of receiving the world's largest container ships, such as the OOCL Spain, solidifying its role in global maritime trade. To further boost its economic impact, the province plans to establish the Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone, a comprehensive industrial-service ecosystem that will integrate with the upcoming Long Thành International Airport. Infrastructure projects like the 4,900 billion VND Phuoc An Bridge and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway are already in the works to ensure seamless connectivity. Tourism will also see a massive upgrade, with goals to attract 65 million visitors by 2030 and the development of night-time economy models including casinos, night markets, and street arts. This strategic transformation is set to keep Ba Ria - Vung Tau firmly within the top 10 provinces for GRDP and budget contribution in Vietnam, making it a beacon of modern development and a cornerstone of the nation's sea-based economy.
