00The rich cultural heritage of Vietnam has always been a source of inspiration for modern artists. Recently, beloved actress Hong Diem, along with four of her talented colleagues from the Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC), captivated fans by transforming into the iconic folk character, Thi Mau. Dressed in vibrant traditional costumes and sporting playful, coquettish expressions, these talented actresses brought a beloved piece of Vietnamese folklore to life in a stunning modern photoshoot.
Thi Mau is a legendary character from the classic Cheo (traditional Vietnamese opera) play "Quan Am Thi Kinh." Known for her bold, flirtatious, and free-spirited personality, Thi Mau represents a rebellion against the strict feudal social norms of ancient Vietnam. Portraying her requires not only beauty but also exceptional acting skills, as the character's charm lies in her expressive eyes, playful smiles, and graceful body language. Hong Diem and her fellow VFC actresses successfully captured this unique essence, blending traditional charm with a touch of modern elegance.
The photoshoot featured the actresses in beautiful "Ao Tu Than" (four-part dresses), a traditional northern Vietnamese attire. The vibrant colors of the dresses—ranging from deep reds and bright yellows to subtle pinks—were complemented by traditional accessories like non quai thao (large flat palm hats) and silk sashes. Each actress brought her own unique personality to the character, creating a diverse yet harmonious portrayal of the legendary Thi Mau.
Beyond the visual beauty, this transformation holds significant cultural value. By stepping into the shoes of a classic folk character, Hong Diem and the VFC actresses are helping to preserve and promote traditional Vietnamese performing arts to a younger generation. The project has received widespread praise from audiences and cultural enthusiasts alike, highlighting the timeless appeal of Vietnam's cultural heritage when presented through the lens of modern creativity.
