00To celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between Vietnam and France, the 'Vietnam Day in France 2023' event recently transformed the Vietnamese Cultural Center in Paris into a vibrant hub of heritage. The theme, 'Origins, Vitality, and Continuity,' was woven through every exhibit, offering French citizens and the overseas Vietnamese community a chance to experience the country’s soul. From historic photo exhibitions to hands-on traditional crafts, the event served as a 'cultural bridge,' fostering a deeper understanding between the two nations.
Culinary heritage took center stage with the presence of Pho Thin Bo Ho, an iconic Hanoi brand since 1955. Despite the chilly Paris weather, long lines formed as guests waited to taste the authentic, clear broth prepared by Bui Chi Thanh, the third-generation successor of the brand. Beyond the food, the 'Vietnam Cultural Space' showcased the intricate art of lacquer engraving. Artist Luong Minh Hoa presented 25 unique works depicting French architectural landmarks in Vietnam, blending traditional techniques with contemporary themes. Visitors were even invited to try their hand at engraving their own souvenirs, creating a lasting personal connection to the craft.
The elegance of Vietnamese history was further highlighted through a collection of 'Hoang Thanh Vang Son' (Golden Journey) ancient costumes. Guests had the rare opportunity to try on Nhat Binh and Lap Linh robes, traditionally worn by royalty during the Nguyen Dynasty. The event also featured the playful side of Vietnamese culture with Dong Ho folk painting demonstrations and the art of nặn tò he (clay figurine making). These multi-sensory experiences—the taste of Pho, the feel of silk, and the sight of vibrant folk art—successfully projected an image of a Vietnam that is both deeply traditional and dynamically developing. It was a true celebration of friendship and cultural pride on the global stage.
