TH House: Innovative 2-Story Home in Da Nang with a Rooftop Organic Farm

TH House in Da Nang is a brilliant example of how modern architecture can support a sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle. Designed by 85 Design on a 104m2 plot, this two-story home with a semi-basement was built for a couple who loves gardening. The architects maximized every square inch to ensure the family has plenty of space for growing clean vegetables and flowers, while still providing enough room for children and grandchildren to visit on weekends. The most striking feature is the rooftop, which has been entirely converted into an organic vegetable garden. This garden serves a dual purpose: providing fresh produce and acting as a natural thermal insulator for the floors below.

To combat the tropical heat of Da Nang, the house utilizes a sophisticated ventilation system. Perforated steel louvers on the facade block direct solar radiation while allowing fresh air to circulate constantly. The semi-basement design was a strategic choice to increase usable space for a garage, technical rooms, and storage without exceeding height restrictions. Inside, the first floor is dedicated to communal living, featuring an open-plan living room, kitchen, and a guest bedroom. The second floor houses two additional bedrooms and a worship space, all of which stay bright and airy thanks to multiple automated skylights and light wells.

Eco-friendly technology is integrated throughout TH House. Sensors and automated control systems manage the skylights to optimize natural light and airflow based on the time of day. Furthermore, the house features a smart water management system that collects rainwater and irrigation runoff into a large underground tank for reuse in the garden. This reduces the home's reliance on municipal water and promotes resource conservation. TH House is more than just a residence; it is a functional ecosystem that demonstrates how urban homes can be both stylish and environmentally responsible.
