The Vietnamese automotive market experienced a dramatic downturn in January 2024, with total sales plummeting by 50% compared to the previous month, according to the latest report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA). This steep decline has reshaped the sales landscape, resulting in a surprising lineup of vehicles landing on the list of the top 10 slowest-selling cars of the month.

Japanese automotive giant Toyota found itself heavily represented in the bottom tier, with six of its models appearing on the list. Most notably, the Toyota Hilux and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado tied for the bottom spot, recording a shocking zero units sold. The Suzuki Ciaz, a frequent occupant of the slow-selling list, sat in third place with only 3 units delivered nationwide. Other models struggling with low volume included the Mazda BT-50 (5 units), Toyota Alphard (6 units), Toyota Yaris (7 units), Honda Accord (8 units), and the high-end Toyota Land Cruiser (16 units).

However, the most surprising entry on the list was the newly updated Toyota Innova Cross, which recorded only 17 units sold in January 2024—a massive drop representing just 7.5% of its sales from the previous month. This sudden decline was highly unexpected, given the high anticipation and marketing push surrounding the vehicle's refresh in late 2023. Rounding out the bottom ten was the Isuzu D-max with 18 units sold.

Industry experts attribute these weak sales figures to a combination of seasonal post-holiday market cooling, tight consumer spending, and supply chain constraints affecting specific imported models. For buyers, understanding these market dynamics provides excellent insight into which models might offer room for negotiation or promotional discounts at dealerships.
