Vung Tau, one of Southern Vietnam's most popular coastal getaways, witnessed an incredible influx of tourists during the Tet Giáp Thìn holiday. Despite challenging weather conditions brought on by the Northeast monsoon, hundreds of thousands of beachgoers gathered along the coast to enjoy the festive atmosphere and cool sea breezes.

Back Beach (Bãi Sau), a beautiful three-kilometer stretch of coastline, was the main hub of activity. Starting from the afternoon of the fourth day of Tet, the beach was packed with visitors swimming and strolling along the shore. The massive influx of travelers led to significant traffic congestion on Thùy Vân Street, with long lines of cars moving slowly and parking lots operating at full capacity.

This year's holiday coincided with strong seasonal winds, with the Northeast monsoon bringing wind levels of 6 to 7 and gusts reaching levels 8 to 9. As the afternoon approached, high tides and powerful waves significantly narrowed the safe swimming areas. Near the iconic Flagpole Square (quảng trường Cột Cờ), waves crashed heavily against the shore. While some tourists preferred to stay on the steps and embankments to watch the dramatic waves and take photos, many adventurous families and groups of friends from nearby provinces like Bình Dương and Ho Chi Minh City still braved the water, playing in the strong surf.

To ensure public safety under these rough conditions, the Vung Tau Tourist Management and Support Center mobilized a dedicated team of 38 rescue workers and deployed two speedboats to patrol the coastline. Lifeguards constantly used megaphones to warn tourists against swimming too far from the shore or entering dangerous whirlpools and rip currents. Thanks to their vigilance, rescue teams successfully saved five swimmers who had been swept into dangerous currents during the holiday.

According to official reports, Vung Tau welcomed approximately 255,000 beachgoers between February 8 and February 13, with a peak of over 115,000 visitors on the fourth day of Tet alone. While the high tides and rough waves temporarily impacted beachfront businesses renting out umbrellas and chairs, the overall tourism season was a massive success. The city's proactive safety measures, including free freshwater shower stations along the boardwalk, helped create a welcoming and safe environment for holidaymakers.
