Located in the scenic region of An Giang, the Chau Doc House is a remarkable example of how traditional architectural forms can be adapted for modern multi-generational living. Inspired by the classic stilt houses of the Mekong Delta, this residence is elevated to protect against seasonal flooding while allowing for excellent airflow beneath and through the structure. The design uses a combination of local materials and contemporary construction techniques to create a space that feels both grounded in history and forward-looking. Large corrugated metal panels and wooden shutters allow the family to adjust the level of privacy and ventilation according to the time of day and weather conditions. Inside, the open-plan layout encourages interaction between the three generations living under one roof, while the use of mezzanine levels creates distinct areas for rest and work. The Chau Doc House celebrates the beauty of raw materials and the surrounding landscape, offering a peaceful and functional home that respects the local culture and climate. This project has gained international acclaim for its clever use of space and its commitment to preserving the vernacular architectural language of Southern Vietnam in a modern context.
