Rotating House in Da Nang: A 3-Story Modern Marvel Redefining Urban Privacy and Ventilation

In the rapidly developing urban landscape of Da Nang, AD+studio has introduced the 'Rotating House,' a 3-story residential project that challenges the conventional constraints of city living. Most houses in the area are built parallel to their land boundaries, often leading to a lack of privacy and poor airflow between adjacent buildings. To solve this, the architects rotated the entire structure by 45 degrees. This clever diagonal orientation creates a buffer zone that breaks the parallel alignment with neighbors, significantly enhancing privacy and creating a sense of depth within the property. The design divides the length of the plot into five distinct sections: two primary living spaces interspersed with three lush garden courtyards. These zones are linked by a central connecting block, ensuring that nature is never more than a few steps away.

The 45-degree rotation isn't just an aesthetic choice; it's a functional response to Feng Shui and local climate. By pointing the sharp angle of the house toward the intersection where a road hits the back of the lot, the architects neutralized negative energy while creating an active ventilation corridor. The upper floors are further 'rotated' 180 degrees relative to the ground floor, forming a closed loop around a central inner courtyard. This courtyard serves as the focal point for all views and provides a safe, visible play area for children, easily monitored from the modern kitchen. Large glass doors and windows are used throughout to dissolve the boundaries between inside and out, flooding the rooms with light and greenery. The Rotating House is a sophisticated example of how geometric innovation can solve common urban problems like heat, lack of privacy, and stagnant air, all while providing a serene, forest-like retreat for the family.
