The New Generation Of Models 2024: Vietnamese Fashion Conquers -8°C Snow in Korea

The Vietnamese fashion industry reached a new milestone with the opening of 'The New Generation Of Models 2024' exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City. This ambitious project, spearheaded by legendary supermodel Xuan Lan, showcases the incredible resilience and artistry of Vietnamese models through a series of breathtaking photo shoots and videos captured in some of the world's most extreme environments. The highlight of this year's collection is a series of high-fashion images taken in South Korea, where the team faced the daunting challenge of performing in temperatures as low as -8 degrees Celsius.

Xuan Lan revealed that the production was a massive undertaking, with a budget of approximately 4 billion VND and no external sponsorship. The team originally planned to shoot at the iconic Nami Island, but when the snow melted unexpectedly, they had to quickly pivot to a different location to capture the desired winter wonderland aesthetic. Working in sub-zero temperatures was physically taxing for everyone involved, including the photographers, support staff, and models. Many models experienced frozen limbs and extreme fatigue, yet they pushed through to ensure the vision was realized. In touching moments of camaraderie, adults often shed their own coats to keep the child models warm between takes.

This project is more than just a fashion shoot; it is a statement of pride for the Vietnamese modeling profession. Xuan Lan emphasized that the goal is to prove that Vietnamese talent—including producers, photographers, and stylists—is on par with international standards. The exhibition features professional models from various generations, including Thuy Trang, Nguyen Hop, and Tram Anh, alongside young rising stars and Xuan Lan’s own daughter, Thien An. By documenting these efforts in a photo book and exhibition, the project aims to honor the hard work of professional models who often work behind the scenes with little recognition. This cultural exchange between Vietnam and Korea through the lens of fashion marks a significant step forward for the local industry.
