CRYPTO MARKET SEPTEMBER 08, 2026

1. Market falls broadly, BTC drops below $80,000.
Total capitalization ranged $2.668–2.698 trillion, down about 1%; 24-hour volume was about $71.57–76.68 billion. Bitcoin dominance held at 58.9%–59.1%, while Ethereum dominance was about 11.3%. Bitcoin fell to $78,302–79,403 depending on the source, with declines from -0.56% to -1.70%. Ethereum and Solana also weakened.

2. Fed rate hike expectations are the main driver.
Markets priced about 60% odds of a 25 basis point Fed hike on September 16. August nonfarm payrolls rose 162,000 vs. the 53,000 forecast. The 10-year Treasury yield hovered near 4.8% and the 2-year yield was 4.37%, the highest since January 2025. This raises the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like crypto.

3. ETH and SOL fall, selling pressure dominates.
Ethereum dropped to $2,468, down -1.24%. Solana traded around $103, down -2.29%. Zcash led decliners with -5% to $1,125, while Hyperliquid fell -3.52% to $84. Profit-taking has spread beyond BTC into large caps.

4. Some altcoins/DeFi tokens still buck the trend.
Aerodrome Finance gained +17% in 24 hours, with open interest at a record 129 million tokens. PancakeSwap rose +7.5% and Polkadot added +8%, while BNB gained +0.22% to around $754. Capital appears to be rotating from Bitcoin into select altcoins and DeFi rather than exiting fully.

5. On-chain data shows growing liquidation risk.
The taker pressure indicator stayed negative for 46 hours, latest at -3.19. About $138 million was liquidated in 24 hours; altcoin open interest crossed above Bitcoin for the first time since December 2024. This could fuel sharper swings if the decline continues.

6. Bitcoin needs the $80,000 level to recover.
Immediate support sits at $77,000, with resistance at $80,000–80,500. For Ethereum, key support is at $2,415, with further supports at $2,285 and $2,200. RSI has fallen below neutral, and BTC has been consolidating between $78,000 and $80,000 for two weeks.

7. ETF outflows point to weak institutional demand.
Ethereum, Solana and XRP ETFs recorded net outflows; Solana ETF inflows dropped 96% to $6.2 million. Combined with lower liquidity, this signals weak institutional appetite.

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY: U.S. August CPI report on September 11 before the Fed meeting on September 15-16.
