00The global automotive market is witnessing a seismic shift as Chinese manufacturer BYD continues its aggressive expansion, most recently with the launch of the BYD Qin Plus Glory Edition. This new iteration of the popular sedan has sent shockwaves through the industry with a starting price of just 79,800 yuan, or approximately $11,000 (270 million VND). Originally launched in 2012, the BYD Qin line was designed to replace the F3DM, the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid. Now in its second generation, the Qin Plus DM-i PHEV and the Qin Plus EV are positioning themselves as high-value alternatives to traditional giants like the Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Lavida.
The BYD Qin Plus Glory Edition isn't just about a low price tag; it's a statement of manufacturing efficiency and technological prowess. Measuring 4,765 x 1,837 x 1,495 mm with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm, it offers a spacious interior that rivals many luxury sedans. Under the hood, the DM-i version features a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine producing 110 hp and 135 Nm of torque. When combined with its electric motor, the performance jumps to an impressive 180 hp/316 Nm for the standard version and 197 hp/325 Nm for the premium trim. The car utilizes BYD's signature Blade Battery technology, with capacities of 8.32 kWh or 18.32 kWh, providing a pure electric range of 55 km to 120 km respectively.
Inside, the Qin Plus DM-i is surprisingly well-equipped for its price point. It features a floating digital instrument cluster, a large central touchscreen, and a sporty three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. This combination of tech and affordability is a direct challenge to established brands in the 'billion-person market' of China and beyond. BYD's ambition doesn't stop at budget sedans; their portfolio includes high-end performance vehicles like the YangWang U8 and U9, which compete with European supercars. However, it is the Qin Plus that will likely drive the most volume, making electric and hybrid mobility accessible to a much wider audience. As BYD moves to 'destroy' the competition with pricing that is 15% to 50% lower than its rivals, the rest of the automotive world is forced to rethink its strategy. The BYD Qin Plus Glory Edition is more than just a car; it's a harbinger of a new era in global transportation.
