00Hanoi welcomed the Lunar New Year 2024 with an unprecedented, breathtaking spectacle as the city hosted a massive drone light show over the iconic West Lake (Hồ Tây). Titled 'Rực rỡ Thăng Long' (Brilliant Thang Long), this artistic light festival served as a magnificent celebration of Vietnam's rich cultural heritage and dynamic future, drawing thousands of eager spectators to the streets of the capital for its dress rehearsal and official New Year's Eve performance.
The event, which took place around the Van Cao intersection, featured a record-breaking number of synchronized drones, making it the largest drone light show ever presented in Southeast Asia. To prepare for this monumental display, a dedicated team of organizers and volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Despite light rain and challenging weather conditions prior to the launch, volunteers carefully set up and protected the high-tech drones using plastic covers to ensure every single unit was ready for a flawless takeoff.
Promptly at 9:30 PM, the night sky over West Lake was illuminated by thousands of colorful, glowing drones. Over the course of a mesmerizing 20-minute performance, the drones formed 11 distinct, intricate light sculptures depicting iconic historical symbols of Hanoi and Vietnam. Spectators gasped in awe as the drones seamlessly transitioned to recreate the Khue Van Cac (Pavilion of the Constellation of Literature), the historic One Pillar Pagoda, the sacred Hoan Kiem Lake, the iconic Long Bien Bridge, and the newly built Ho Guom Opera House. The show also featured symbolic representations of King Ly Thai To's historic decree to move the capital, as well as a majestic, soaring dragon representing the Ly Dynasty.
Adding to the sensory experience, the visual display was perfectly synchronized with a custom musical score composed by the renowned Vietnamese musician Quoc Trung. Combined with a state-of-the-art sound system installed around West Lake, the performance offered a truly immersive experience that blended cutting-edge technology with traditional storytelling. This spectacular drone light show not only provided an unforgettable start to the Year of the Dragon but also highlighted Hanoi's growing status as a modern global city that deeply respects and celebrates its thousand-year history.
