00Vietnam's maritime travel has reached a new pinnacle with the introduction of the Thang Long, the largest high-speed passenger ship currently operating in the country. This architectural marvel of the sea recently arrived in Vung Tau after a two-day journey from Hai Phong, signaling a new era for tourists heading to the historic Con Dao islands. Measuring an impressive 77.46 meters in length and over 9.5 meters in width, the Thang Long is a four-story vessel crafted from high-grade aluminum alloy, designed to carry up to 1,017 passengers in comfort and style.
Built by the Phu Quoc Express high-speed boat company, the Thang Long is engineered for both speed and stability. It is equipped with three state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce MTU engines from Germany, boasting a total capacity of nearly 12,000 horsepower. This powerful setup allows the ship to reach speeds of up to 32 knots (approximately 57.6 km/h). For travelers, this means significantly reduced travel times: approximately 4.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh City and only 3.5 hours from Vung Tau to Con Dao. The ship's unique 'inverted bow' design is inspired by luxury billionaire yachts, ensuring smooth operation even in rough seas with winds up to level 8.
Inside the Thang Long, passengers can choose between various levels of service. The first floor houses the luxury VIP cabin with leather-upholstered seating, while the second and third floors are dedicated to standard economy classes. Every floor offers outdoor spaces for sightseeing, allowing travelers to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and stunning coastal views. The fourth floor features a dedicated coffee shop area, perfect for relaxing during the voyage. Safety is a top priority, with advanced fire alarm systems, surveillance cameras, and a design that remains buoyant even if two compartments are compromised.
Starting from March 9, the Thang Long operates on a regular schedule between Vung Tau and Con Dao on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, returning on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Ticket prices are competitive, ranging from 790,000 to 950,000 VND for economy class and 1.2 million VND for VIP service. Special rates are available for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. As Vietnam continues to develop its coastal tourism, the Thang Long stands as a testament to modern engineering and the growing demand for high-quality travel experiences.
