For the very first time, the world-renowned Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has made a historic stop in the breathtaking waters of Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Eleven magnificent ocean-crossing sailing yachts representing global teams—including Ha Long Bay Viet Nam, Qingdao, Zhuhai, Bakezela, Dare To Lead, Our Isles And Oceans, Perseverance, PSP Logistics, Unicef, Washington DC, and Yacht Club Punta Del Este—docked at the state-of-the-art Halong International Cruise Port.

This arrival marked the successful completion of Race 7, the fifth leg of the grueling Clipper Race, aptly named the "Asia-Pacific Challenge." The challenging journey began at the Coral Sea Marina in Queensland, Australia, stretching across a vast 4,515 nautical miles of open ocean. Over a demanding 25-day voyage, international crews battled the unpredictable elements of Mother Nature to reach Vietnam's UNESCO World Heritage site.

In this leg of the race, team Qingdao clinched the top spot, followed closely by Zhuhai in second place and Unicef in third. The local favorite, the "Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam" yacht, skippered by British captain Josh Stickland, made a proud entry in fifth place. Each of these impressive 20-meter yachts is powered almost entirely by the wind, utilizing a towering 32-meter mast, with only a small auxiliary engine reserved for maneuvering safely in and out of ports.

Life on board these racing vessels requires incredible resilience. Sailing through the Pacific Ocean, crews encountered fierce storms and even massive waterspouts. To survive these conditions, the crew of up to 46 members—including many female sailors—works in strict shifts to ensure everyone gets around 10 hours of sleep per day. The compact interiors are masterfully designed to maximize space, featuring tight sleeping bunks, a small galley kitchen, and essential navigation stations. Safety is paramount, with advanced GPS tracking systems and multiple 12-person life rafts onboard.

During their two-week stay in Ha Long, the international crews will enjoy well-deserved rest, explore the stunning limestone karsts, and engage in local cultural exchanges. This prestigious event offers a golden opportunity for Quang Ninh province to showcase its spectacular tourism appeal to travelers in Europe, North America, and Australia. On March 2, the fleet will set sail once again, heading toward their next destination in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China, continuing their epic journey around the globe.
