00Vietnam is a land rich in history, deep spirituality, and breathtaking natural landscapes. Among its most revered spiritual destinations is the Den Nua - Am Tien relic site, nestled atop the majestic Ngan Nua Mountain in Trieu Son District, Thanh Hoa Province. This national historical and cultural monument holds deep historical significance, as it is closely linked to the legendary Lady Trieu (Ba Trieu), who led a historic uprising against the East Wu invaders in the year 248.
Beyond its historical roots, Ngan Nua Mountain is famous for its unique spiritual energy. The summit of Ngan Nua is widely recognized as one of Vietnam's three major 'sacred energy points' (huyệt đạo thiêng), alongside Da Chong Mountain in Ba Vi, Hanoi, and Ba Den Mountain in Tay Ninh Province. Believers and spiritual seekers consider this spot a divine intersection where heaven and earth meet, gathering immense spiritual energy and cosmic harmony.
Every year, on the 9th day of the first lunar month, the local authorities and residents host the famous 'Opening the Gate of Heaven' (mở cổng trời) festival. This spectacular event marks the beginning of a festive season that lasts until the 20th of the first lunar month. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the country embark on a spiritual journey to Am Tien to pray for peace, health, and prosperity in the new year. The traditional rituals feature elaborate offerings, palanquin processions, and sacred prayers dedicated to heaven, earth, and local deities.
During the festival, the atmosphere is vibrant yet deeply respectful. Visitors participate in unique spiritual rituals, such as walking around the sacred energy point while whispering prayers, and gently touching a spherical black stone monument to absorb the spiritual energy of the universe. Located about 20 kilometers from Thanh Hoa City, the site is easily accessible by bus, car, or motorbike. However, due to the massive influx of tourists during the Lunar New Year, travelers should prepare for crowded pathways and traffic. Many choose to walk up the scenic mountain path to fully immerse themselves in the fresh, cool air and beautiful natural surroundings. Planning your visit during the off-peak hours or early in the morning can provide a more serene experience, allowing you to appreciate the architectural beauty of Nua Temple and the panoramic views of the Trieu Son countryside. Whether you are a history buff, a spiritual seeker, or a nature lover, the journey to the top of Ngan Nua Mountain offers a profound glimpse into Vietnam's enduring cultural traditions.
