A Look Inside China's C919 Jet During Its First Visit to Vietnam

In a significant move for the aviation industry, the Chinese-made C919 passenger jet has made its first visit to Vietnam, landing at Van Don International Airport. Comac, the aircraft manufacturer, took the rare step of allowing public access to the C919 and the regional ARJ21 jet, providing a firsthand look at the interiors that were previously restricted at the Singapore Airshow. The C919, a narrow-body jet with a capacity of up to 192 passengers, is Beijing’s ambitious answer to the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737, priced at approximately $99 million.

Inside the cabin, the C919 features a modern design with two rows of business class seating upholstered in light brown leather, and a spacious economy configuration similar to its Western counterparts. The cabin height of 2.25 meters offers a sense of comfort, and the interior lighting can be adjusted across 10 different color modes. The cockpit design is notably similar to the Airbus A320, utilizing high-tech components from global suppliers like Rockwell Collins and Honeywell. The ARJ21, China’s first domestically produced jet, was also on display, showcasing its regional capabilities and successful track record of serving 13 million passengers. This exhibition in Vietnam highlights the growing competitive presence of Chinese aviation technology in the global market.
