From Tà Xùa Clouds to TikTok Fame: Iryna Yang’s Love Affair with Vietnam

Iryna Yang, a Belarusian native born in 1996 and known by her Vietnamese name Tường Vy, has spent the last five years building a vibrant life in Vietnam. Standing at an impressive 1m83, the former international relations student first arrived in Hanoi as an exchange student in 2016. What was meant to be an 8-month adventure turned into a lifelong passion. Her turning point came during a Tet holiday when she joined a group of travelers for a motorbike 'phuot' trip to Tà Xùa, Sơn La. Witnessing the 'sea of clouds' and experiencing the warmth of a Vietnamese Tet meal for the first time sparked a deep desire to explore every corner of the country.

Today, Iryna is a successful model and a massive TikTok influencer with over 700,000 followers. She is famous for her series exploring the specialties of all 63 provinces, from the dragon fruit of Bình Thuận to the litchi of Bắc Giang. Despite her initial fear of the 'Tet weight gain,' she admits that 'banh chung ran' (fried sticky rice cake) dipped in soy sauce is a '10-point' dish in her heart. Living in Hanoi with her Vietnamese boyfriend, she has embraced the local culture, from cleaning the house for the New Year to wearing the 'ao dai.' Looking forward to 2024, Iryna aims to explore the Mekong Delta more deeply and begin creating content in English and German to share her love for Vietnamese cuisine with a global audience. Her story is a beautiful example of how travel can bridge cultures and create a new sense of belonging.
