Massive Tourist Exodus from Da Lat After Successful Lunar New Year Holiday

As the Lunar New Year celebrations wind down, the picturesque city of Da Lat is witnessing a massive wave of tourists heading home. Starting from the early hours of February 17th, key arterial roads including Ong Dao Bridge, Tran Quoc Toan, and 3 Thang 4 Street became packed with vehicles. According to statistics from the Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the province welcomed a staggering 280,000 visitors during the Tet period, with Da Lat alone accounting for 238,000 of those guests.

Despite the heavy volume of traffic, the situation remained under control thanks to the tireless efforts of the local traffic police. Officers were deployed at every major intersection and roundabout to regulate the flow of cars and motorcycles, preventing long-term gridlock. The most significant congestion was noted on the route leading from Xuan Huong Lake toward the Prenn Pass, as travelers from Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai began their journey back to the lowlands. Interestingly, local business owners noted that this year's tourism revenue was significantly higher than the previous year, marking a successful season for the local economy.

One of the biggest highlights for travelers this year was the newly upgraded Prenn Pass. With an investment of over 550 billion VND, the pass was expanded and reopened just in time for the 2024 Tet holiday. This infrastructure improvement has been a 'game-changer' for the region, drastically reducing the time spent in traffic compared to previous years. While a minor accident involving a truck and a motorcycle caused a brief slowdown on the pass, the widened lanes allowed the scene to be cleared quickly without causing a major backlog.

For the thousands of motorcycle travelers—many of whom spent their entire holiday exploring the winding mountain roads—the journey home is a long one. However, the presence of police checkpoints and the improved road conditions offered a sense of security. As the 'City of Eternal Spring' returns to its quieter state, the success of this holiday season serves as a testament to Da Lat’s enduring popularity and the province's commitment to improving the travel experience for all.
