The art world is currently buzzing with the latest showcase from the young prodigy Xèo Chu, titled 'Traditional Crafts and the Fine Arts of Artist Xèo Chu.' This exhibition, hosted at the Ho Chi Minh City Exhibition House at 92 Lê Thánh Tông, District 1, marks the artist's seventh solo show, a remarkable milestone for someone who began their journey just five years ago. This particular collection focuses on works created over the past three years, centered around the delicate and evocative theme of flowers found in his mother’s garden. Xèo Chu, whose real name is Phó Vạn An, was born in 2007 and has been immersed in the world of art since the age of four. Growing up in a household that owned a gallery, his talent was nurtured early, leading him to achieve international fame at just 12 years old when his painting of Ha Long Bay sold for over $150,000.

In this latest exhibition, Xèo Chu explores the intersection of contemporary painting and traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship. One of the standout pieces, 'Lê phú quý,' is a massive 100x300 cm canvas that integrates elements from traditional weaving villages, creating a stunning visual harmony that invites viewers to appreciate cultural heritage through a modern lens. The artist also features numerous depictions of roses and pear blossoms, inspired by the 30-square-meter garden his mother tends at their home. Beyond traditional canvases, Xèo Chu has also ventured into the digital realm; in 2021, his first NFT work, 'Lucky Apricot Blossoms,' was auctioned on the Binance NFT platform for nearly $23,000. His abstract style has drawn comparisons from international media outlets like Reuters to the legendary American painter Jackson Pollock.

The exhibition is not just a display of talent but also a mission of charity. Xèo Chu has produced approximately 300 works over his 13-year career, and his family maintains that the proceeds from his sales are dedicated to charitable causes. Visitors to the Ho Chi Minh City Museum can experience this vibrant collection for free until February 29. From the bold strokes of 'Hồng nắng' to the deep, mysterious tones of 'Hồng đêm,' the exhibition offers a profound look at how a young artist interprets nature and tradition. Whether it is the intricate lacquer work on wedding trays combined with floral paintings or the grand 3-meter-long 'Lê sớm mai,' Xèo Chu continues to push the boundaries of what a teenage artist can achieve in the global art scene.
