The development of a 'Smart Rural' (Nong Thon Moi Thong Minh) environment in Vietnam is intrinsically linked to the success and modernization of its cooperatives. In a recent talk show hosted by VietNamNet, leaders like Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van (President of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance) and Ms. Cao Thi Thuy (Director of the Doan Ket Agricultural Cooperative) discussed how digital transformation is the key to unlocking the potential of the countryside. Cooperatives are no longer just traditional farming groups; they are becoming the bridge between small-scale farmers and the global market, utilizing technology to improve quality, transparency, and efficiency.

Digital transformation in agriculture involves everything from using drones (UAVs) for crop spraying to implementing QR codes for product traceability. Ms. Cao Thi Thuy shared her experience in Ứng Hòa, where her cooperative has revitalized abandoned lands by creating large-scale fields and adopting smart machinery. By shifting from manual labor to technology-driven processes, cooperatives can attract younger talent and ensure higher incomes for their members. However, the path is not without challenges. Many cooperatives still struggle with limited capital, a lack of specialized training, and a general hesitation to move away from long-standing traditional methods.

Ms. Cao Xuan Thu Van emphasized that for a rural area to be considered 'Smart,' its cooperatives must be thriving. This requires a comprehensive strategy that includes building a digital infrastructure, providing accessible financial support, and fostering a culture of innovation. The government's goal for 2021-2025 is to have at least 70% of communes with effective cooperatives and 50% of production links utilizing digital technology. Achieving this will require a collaborative effort between the state, the cooperatives, and private enterprises. This post explores the strategic solutions discussed during the seminar, highlighting the success stories and the roadmap for a more sustainable and technologically advanced Vietnamese agriculture. It is a call to action for all stakeholders to invest in the future of the cooperative model as a pillar of rural prosperity.
